On Wednesday 21st August, the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Rear Admiral Chris Snow CBE DL, presented members of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton Branch with their King’s Coronation medals to recognise their contribution as volunteers in Mountain Rescue.

Other honoured guests were the Mayor of Ashburton Counsellor, Saskia Hogbin, and Superintendent Brent Ireland from Devon & Cornwall Police. The King’s Coronation Medals were awarded to all members of the armed forces, front line emergency services and volunteer emergency services, including Mountain Rescue, who had 5 years of service at the time of the Kings Coronation in 2023.

Rear Admiral Snow commented on the achievement, saying…

“I was really delighted to have the opportunity to present the King and Queen’s Coronation Medal to 46 members of Dartmoor Search and Rescue Ashburton. As a volunteer group who make such a difference to all of us who enjoy Dartmoor and its surrounds, they are exactly the sort of team whose commitment and dedication is deservedly marked by awards like these. It was a pleasure, too, to meet and thank many of the volunteers’ families and supporters. Without them I know the volunteers would find it far harder to do the things they do.”
