On Monday, 8th July, HM Lord Lieutenant of Devon presented Assist Teignbridge, a Devon-based charity, with their King’s Award for Voluntary Service at a reception held in The Manor House, Dawlish.

Assist Teignbridge is at the heart of the community in Dawlish, Devon, promoting volunteering and offering information, advice, help and assistance to elderly and vulnerable people in the locality through the Community Support Project.

The charity also provides a range of services across the whole of Teignbridge, including a home care & sitting service to support individuals and able carers to take a break, a nail trimming service in people’s homes or at a central venue in Dawlish, and a home help service for those who might struggle to manage household tasks.

There, the Lord Lieutenant met with people who volunteer for Assist Teignbridge, as well as those who are supported by the charity’s services.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK, to recognise outstanding work done in their communities. It was created in 2002 and is equivalent to an MBE for volunteer groups.
