On Thursday 9th May, the Lord Lieutenant of Devon held a ‘Charity Breakfast Discussion’ at Castle Hill, where he brought together over 65 charities based in North Devon to discuss what issues they are facing operating a charity in the area.
He was joined by his Vice Lord-Lieutenant and some of his Deputy Lieutenants, who hosted a table each and lead the discussions, to analyse where the Lord Lieutenant and his office can provide their support to charities in the North Devon area.
The discussions were held at Castle Hill, a historic home in Filleigh, North Devon, which was built in 1730, where a continental breakfast was provided to all attendees as they spoke of the difficulties they have been experiencing.

The Lord Lieutenant has previously held two other breakfast discussions in Plymouth and Mid Devon, inviting local charities in the area to speak about the same topics. On 20th September 2023, The Duchess of Edinburgh attended the Lord Lieutenant’s breakfast at Coldharbour Mill in Uffculme, Mid Devon, which is one of the oldest woollen textile mills in the world. There, she spoke to those involved in the charities to hear of their struggles.
The Lord Lieutenant is keen to host further discussions with charities around the County to gain a general consensus of the issues these organisations are facing around Devon. One of the priorities of King Charles III is charity and community, and therefore the Lord Lieutenant wants his office to be involved in this area to analyse how it can provide its support.
