On Thursday, 2nd May, HM Lord Lieutenant of Devon hosted a British Empire Medal Investiture at the Exeter Historic Guildhall. This ceremony saw the presentation of the British Empire Medal, which is awarded for a ‘hands-on’ service to the local community. This could be a long-term charitable or voluntary activity, or innovative work of a relatively short duration that has made a significant difference.

Medallists of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) included:

  • Ian Barnaby BEM for voluntary services to Maritime Safety

  • Shelley Coleman BEM for services to the community in Plymouth, Devon

  • Ann Doody BEM for services to the community in Ilfracombe, Devon

  • Terence Brian Gerry BEM for services to the community in Plymouth, Devon
