On Tuesday, 19th September, the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the Churches Housing Action Team (CHAT), a charity based in Tiverton, Devon, where she met local volunteers who run and operate the charity. Founded in 1995, they provide help to those who find themselves homeless or facing homelessness in Mid Devon, offering housing advice, tenancy support, budgeting, debt & money advice, foodbank, energy advice and shower and clothes washing facilities for those who are sleeping rough.
She was met by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, who introduced her to the High Sheriff of Devon, Nick McKinnel, as well as Councillor Percy Prowse, Chair of Devon County Council.
The Duchess met local individuals who use the facility, learning about their stories and how the charity has helped and benefited them. Additionally, The Duchess was given a tour of CHAT’s foodbank, learning about the difficulties they face maintaining stock with the increase of people needing help and food supplies in the local area.
